24 Hours of Mat RESULTS

Well, it was an epic weekend out at Kepler-Bradley. Thanks to all that came out and joined in the fun (and rain)! Nice job everyone!

UPDATED RESULTS can be found here. We had several errors in the first set of results, so this is the second (and hopefully final) set. Please check it out and make sure your lap count/time is correct. If not, please email me at megpiersma@gmail.com. Thanks!

There is a great article in the Anchorage Daily News about the race!

If you have pictures that you wouldn't mind sharing, please email them to megpiersma@gmail.com.

Everyone lined up to start! In front (l-r) is Jason Hill, Will Ross, Brent Gorman & John Lackey.

Chet Fehrmann (24 solo winner) getting ready to go out on his 21st (and last) lap of the race.

Kincaid XC #2 RESULTS

It was another fabulous evening at Kincaid! Perfect weather, awesome race course and a very large group of pumped up racers! Thanks to you all for coming out and an extra big THANK YOU to the flag pullers (Darcy, Petra, Amber, Sheryl, Eeva, Nathan, Chet, Marge, John, Carey, Tana and more!). We've also got two amazing women helping me with registration each race- Gina & Tana. Thank you! Man, what an awesome biking community we have!

PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD THE RESULTS:

1) Masters are 50+ years old (some of you spring chickens are trying to race in the masters category when you should be in SPORT- please register as sport next race). Juniors are under 18 years old (we had some juniors race as beginners - please make sure you register as a junior if you are under 18 and only want to do one lap). It gets very confusing when your race number does not correlate to the category you registered under!
2) As you will see on the race results, we had some folks miss sections of the course last night. I still recorded your time, but you are not officially entered into the results or the points series (basically a DNF). It is YOUR responsibility to follow the flagging (always on your right). If you know you missed a section of the course last night, please be honest and shoot me an email letting me know. I will adjust the results accordingly. megpiersma@gmail.com
3) PLEASE KEEP YOUR RACE NUMBER FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON!!! It's $5 if you need a new one.
4) There were some folks riding around the parking lot last night without a helmet on. Please know that once you sign your name on the sign-in sheet, you MUST wear your helmet ANY time you are on your bike, or it will be an automatic DQ. We're VERY strict about this. Seriously.

OK, here are the results!

Awesome job, everyone! Hope to see you all at the next race: Tuesday, July 6, Kincaid XC #3!

  • RACE MAP
Directions to parking and race start:
From Minnesota, head west on Raspberry Road. Follow Raspberry through Jewel Lake Rd, past Sand Lake Rd. and past the big Kincaid Park sign. Wind your way through Kincaid Park, past the Raspberry parking lot (which will be on your right) and under the big ski bridge. Parking will be in the big lot below the Chalet on your right (the stadium lot). Registration will be in the western most corner of the lot. The race start and finish will be in the stadium below the chalet.

Hillside Short Track

Saturday, June 19, Noon

THIS IS GOING TO BE ONE AWESOME RACE!!!

What the heck is a short track race? Well, it's fast and furious, for one. Racers ride laps around a short, technical course (our course is just over 1 mile long) for 30 minutes, plus one more lap around. Our course involves ski trails plus a bit of rooty single track (read: cross bikes not appropriate or allowed) with some ups and downs. This race is GREAT for spectators because racers will be flying through the start/finish area all the time- no waiting 30 or more minutes to see your rider! We expect the expert riders to do one lap in about 5 minutes or so.

Race Format
Expert/Masters/Sport Men: 12:00-12:30pm, plus one lap
Expert/Masters/Sport Women + Beginner Men: 12:45-1:15pm, plus one lap
Beginner Women + All Juniors: 1:30-2:00pm, plus one lap

Race course map can be found here.

Registration: will open at 11:00am and will close right before the beginner women & juniors go out (around 1:20pm). MAKE SURE TO REGISTER BEFORE YOUR RACE.

Adults $15, under 18 race free.

You MUST be a member of the Arctic Bike Club to race. Please fill out the membership form and mail it in, or bring it to the race with your payment (with everything already filled out). We will NOT be providing membership forms at registration- it creates way too much congestion and slows things down. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR BECOMING A MEMBER BEFORE THE RACE. Membership forms can be found here.

Pre-race meeting: will be right before your group goes out on the course

Parking & Registration will be at the far north end of the Hilltop Ski Area parking lot (where you park to access the big gas line trail). From the Seward HWY, go east onto Abbott Road through Elmore and past Service High School. You'll take a left into the Hilltop Ski Area and drive through the gate, past the chalet and lifts to the very back of the parking lot.

To ease your minds about the bears in the area: We kept the course as far away from the creek as possible and we will be racing during the middle of the day (few sightings occur during these hours) PLUS the course is very short and you will always be within a few minutes of the parking lot, and you will always be surrounded by other racers and trail users. If you would like to ride with a bear bell on your bike, please feel free. I have personally spoken to the bear experts with the Muni (the people in charge of closing trails due to bears) and Fish & Game. No one thought is was necessary to cancel or move the race. Your safety is of utmost concern to us here at ABC and we would never knowingly put anyone in harms way (well, beside giving you tough race courses...). :)

WE HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL OUT AT THE RACE THIS SATURDAY!!! It's going to be a great course and it'll be even better if it's raining, so don't shy away due to weather- there's nothing better than getting wet and dirty with fellow racers!

If you have any questions/concerns, please email or call the race director (Megan) at megpiersma@gmail.com or 440-9928.
