Downhill Dome Results

Sorry it's taken me so long to get these results posted... been experiencing some technical difficulties.

Saturday's Downhill Dome was a blast! We had 13 racers brave the course (and with what appeared to be to two pretty wicked endo's resulting in bloody faces, I really do mean brave) during some really great weather. The long push up is definitely worth the short thrill ride down. The winner, Mark Elfstrom, TORE down the mountain like he was being chased by a jaguar in the jungle. Pretty impressive.

1) Mark Elfstrom 8 minutes and 38 seconds
2) Kevin Murphy 9:53
3) Bruce Ross 10:16
4) Jed Ullrich 10:35
5) Allen Garrett 10:50
6) Darren Mattingly 11:02
7) Jessie Donahue 11:30
8) Collin O'Farrell 11:55
9) Doug Gray 12:06
10) Ray Huot 12:12
11) Ivy Pedersen 16:38
12) Amy Cornelius 17:35
13) Carl Smith DNF

Downhill Dome

The Downhill Dome is THIS Saturday, June 4!

Registration: 9-9:30am
Pre-race meeting: 9:30am
Race start: 10:30am or so

We will talk about how to get to the top at the pre-race meeting. It typically takes about an hour to get to the top of the Dome. We will start when everyone gets to the top.

We will hold the registration and pre-race meeting in the North Bivouac Trailhead on north side of Campbell Airstrip Road. Take Tudor Rd. east from Lake Otis, take a right on Campbell Airstrip Rd. The North Bivouac trailhead parking lot will be on your left several miles down the road. You can't miss it.

Here is the course map.

This is a downhill ONLY race, meaning that you are timed from the top to the bottom only. This is a super fun & fast race- if you've never done a downhill race, come on out and give this great trail a try!

Helmets are required!

$15 for adults, under 18 race free. Must be an ABC member to race- go here to check it out.

Arctic Valley Hill Climb May 17

Our permit has been approved!

Here are the race details:

Tuesday, May 17, 2011
Race registration is 6-6:45pm.
Pre-race meeting at 6:45pm.
Race will start at 7pm sharp.

Parking & registration will be in a dirt parking lot on the right side of the Arctic Valley road about 1.5 miles up from the Moose Run driving range. To get there, take the Glenn HWY out towards Eagle River. Take the Arctic Valley exit. Go straight towards mountains, past the golf course and driving range. The paved road will turn to dirt- keep going. You will eventually see a large parking lot on the right. Look for a red Subaru wagon with a table set up next to it. Register here.

Be aware that there is road construction on Arctic Valley Road (just the paved portion) so it may take a bit longer to get to the registration area- it may be a good idea to give yourself a few extra minutes.

The race will start back down at the driving range, but you'll all get there via bike.

The Arctic Valley hill climb is about 7 miles, all up hill, to the Alpenglow Chalet parking lot. It's great for getting your hill work in!

CYCLOCROSS BIKES ARE ALLOWED!

It's $15 for adults, under 18 race free.

YOU MUST BE A MEMBER OF THE ARCTIC BIKE CLUB TO RACE!
To become a member, go here.

Any questions, call 440-9928 or email megpiersma@gmail.com.

The 2011 season fast approaches!

I just wanted to let you all know what's going on with the website.

It's looking like we're going to stick with using this blog for the season instead of the new ABC website. We also won't be doing online registration (bummer dude) this summer, but hopefully it will be up and running for the 2012 season...

You CAN, however, become an ABC member online!!! Go here: http://arcticbikeclub.org/signup-plans.php to join. Remember, you MUST be a member to race with the Mountain Bike Division!

Last post of the year!!!

So, this is it. The last post of the year (I think). I just wanted to give you all a quick season wrap-up and a peek into what is on the docket for next year (we're very excited!).
  • All said and done, we had 17 races and a total of 689 participants!
  • We had around 50 people participate in all 4 championships races.
  • We hosted short tracks, time trials, cross countries, hill climbs, downhills, an up & over race, and one amazing 24 hour race.
  • We had a host of AWESOME volunteers to assist with registration, course clearing, flag pulling (and flag sticking in), and course design.
  • We had really sick maps this year!
  • We had SUPER COOL socks for sale - and I do mean SUPER cool, because Katie Compton (#1 in the pic and by far the best female cyclocross racer in the USA!) has been wearing them during her cyclocross races!
Here are some of our ideas for the 2011 Mountain Bike racing season:
  • The Tuesday Night Kincaid XC series was seriously popular, so we're going to stick with that.
  • New venues! We're thinking Bartlett, Beach Lake Trails in Chugiak and possibly something out in the valley (we'll work with the valley bikers to do a race or two).
  • BETTER course marking! This means that we need reliable volunteers to commit to one or two or more races - if you are interested being on the "flagging committee," please email me!
  • Saturday races are not well-attended, so we won't be holding many of those (exceptions are the Up & Over and the 24 Hour race).
  • A women's-only race/clinic (sorry guys) to boost confidence and garner more interest from the female population. And because women ROCK!
  • A slightly adjusted State Championships - more on this in the spring!
  • A BRAND NEW WEBSITE!!! ABC has just unveiled the new website and it's beautiful! We'll be moving everything over to the new website sometime this winter. So, in other words, this blog will no longer be the go-to site for the MTB division. It'll be even better!
  • ONLINE RACE REGISTRATION just like the road division. YIPPEE! And the same great race fee if you register online: $15.
Some last words from your race director:
  • Thank you to everyone that came out and participated in one way or another - YOU are what makes this division the best! Please come back next year and bring your friends, family & bike buddies!
  • If you are interested in being on our newly formed FLAGGING COMMITTEE or the COURSE CLEARING COMMITTEE, please just shoot me an email and I'll add your name to the list. Then I'll be in touch come springtime. Remember, if you join a committee, you race for FREE!
Thanks again, and enjoy a wonderful winter.

Sincerely,
your most enthusiastic race director,
Megan : megpiersma@gmail.com, 440-9928
