Arctic Valley Hill Climb

Tonight's Arctic Valley Hill Climb race has been canceled due to the nasty weather forecast. This race will not be rescheduled due to the time it takes for permits to be approved through the base... so you'll have to wait until next year!

Please keep your eye out for the SurveyMonkey bike race survey, which is coming soon!  We'd love to hear your thoughts on this past race season!

Thanks everyone and make sure you batten down the hatches tonight!!!

Since it's getting pretty dang late and my eyelids are starting to droop, I'm going to post the results and follow up with the rest of the details later (tomorrow, hopefully). So, FINAL POINTS TALLY, Top Three Winners info, Champs info, awards info, season recap, etc... is coming soon.

Kincaid XC #5 Results

Again, what a gorgeous night to have a bike race! We are really lucking out on the weather so far this season... knock on wood.  AND another terrific turn-out! 79 racers!

A few things:

1) Kincaid XC #6 is NEXT Tuesday and we'll be back in the stadium for our final Tuesday night race. I hope to see ALL of you there! I'll post the updated points tally before next Tuesday.

2) Alaska State Mountain Bike Championships are August 23-26. Thursday-Sunday, four races plus an awards BBQ on Sunday night. Don't let the name scare you away... these races are for EVERYONE! So even if you are a beginner or even if you've been racing the short course, we encourage you to come out and try your hand at a series. Each race is different, so you'll get to experience something new every time you come out. Plus the BBQ at the end is a blast - lots of food, friends, prizes and awards. I'll post all the info on the Champs within the next week.

(please shoot me an email if you see an error in the results... I'm still human, after all)

Kincaid XC #4 Results

Another glorious evening for a bike race! Great turn-out with 83 racers (not 93 as previously stated...sorry!). Lots of new-to-the-scene racers tonight, which is super awesome. Our beginner categories are steadily growing, which we REALLY like to see! We hope you all had a really good time and enjoyed the course.

Just a few things before the results...

1) next race: XC #5, August 7, based out of Little Campbell Lake parking lot, more info soon!

2) ALASKA STATE MOUNTAIN BIKING CHAMPIONSHIPS are coming up August 23-26. Do not let the name intimidate you! It's for ALL levels, abilities and ages. It's a series of 4 races, all different sorts, but all super fun. It's a Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday morning, Sunday morning racing extravaganza! Sunday night we will have the awards BBQ, which is for both the Kincaid Tuesday Night XC Series AND the Championships. One BBQ for everything! You must all come! Put August 23-26 on your calendars! More info as it magically manifests.

3) Please, please, please remember to check in with the race officials (cute timing ladies) if you decide to quit racing or "DNF" due to a mechanical or crash. We won't leave the area until everyone is accounted for... so rest assured that we won't leave you lying in a ditch somewhere with a concussion!

Okay, okay... here they are:

*shoot me an email if your results need a-tweaking!
**we did have several (read: LOTS) of folks miss course, take wrong turns, add some trail, skip some trail, etc... so we are just calling it a wash... anyone not okay with that can track down everyone that didn't do the course exactly as it was meant to be, then adjust the results. :)
***we have TWO small hoodies left... get them at the next race for $35.  Plus SOCKS! $10/pair

Kincaid Short Track

Tuesday, July 10, 7pm, JODHPUR PARKING LOT, Kincaid Park
  • Registration: 6-6:45pm
  • Race start: 7pm
Depending on how many folks show up, we will either have one group (mass start) or we will break you up into two groups. Everyone will race for 30 minutes, plus one lap. So if there are two groups, the first group will go out at 7pm and end around 7:35pm, the second group will head out at 7:40pm and race until 8:15 or so. The second group will get to cheer on the first group and the first group will get to cheer on the second group! This is a GREAT race for spectators, because we see the racers every couple of minutes! Also a great race for beginners because the course is relatively mild.

REGISTRATION AND RACE START WILL BE LOCATED IN THE JODHPUR PARKING LOT.

Directions: head west on Raspberry Road (like you are heading to the main Kincaid Park entrance) and take a left (south) on Sand Lake Road. Take the first major right (west) onto Kincaid Road. Follow Kincaid Road to the 90 degree left-hand turn (this is where Jodhpur Road begins), follow Jodhpur until about a mile down. The parking lot entrance will be on your right, marked by a big red gate and signs. The entrance is somewhat obscured by trees, so just keep your eyes peeled. It is the same entrance for the Motocross area. Drive down the dirt road and park in the big lot on your right.
  • You must be a member of the Arctic Bike Club to race. Join HERE.
  • Helmets are required.
  • Bear bells are not required for this race.
  • This race does not count for points in the Kincaid Race Series.
  • $15 adults, juniors (under 18) race free!
No race map because it will take you just a few minutes to pre-ride the course.  So it's a surprise until you get there!

If you have questions, email Megan!

Kincaid XC #1 Results

What a glorious evening we had out there tonight! Despite the slightly late start, the broken bikes (and broken teeth), the angry momma moose, and the occasional lost racer, it was the perfect start to a season of great mountain bike racing! Thank you to all 83 racers that came out tonight - it truly was a fantastic turn-out.

(updated 6/9/12)

Please email me if you feel like your time is off.  The new timing system worked great, but as with all new stuff, there tends to be somewhat of a learning curve, so please keep that in mind when emailing me.

Thank you to everyone that volunteered time setting up the course, taking down the course and helping with timing/registration! These races happen because of YOU!

NEXT RACE:
Kincaid XC #2, Tuesday, June 19
Parking & Registration at the Lower Stadium Lot (same place as tonight's race)

Everyone did a fantastic job! I hope to see you all out again at the first Kincaid XC of the year - Tuesday, June 5. More details and a course map to come!

Please note that the Downhill Dome scheduled for Saturday, June 2 has been cancelled due to the huge amount of snow still on the ground higher up. FIRST RACE OF THE SEASON!

Arctic Valley Hill Climb - Tuesday, May 22, 7pm

Race registration is 6:00-6:45pm.
Pre-race meeting at 6:45pm.
Race will start at 7pm sharp.

Parking and registration will be in a dirt parking lot on the right side of the Arctic Valley Road about 1.5 miles up from the Moose Run driving range. To get there, take the Glenn HWY out towards Eagle River. Take the Arctic Valley exit. Go straight towards mountains, past the golf course and driving range. The paved road will turn to dirt- keep going. You will eventually see a large parking lot on the right. Look for a red Subaru wagon with a table set up next to it. Register here.

Please note that this year we have a brand new registration and timing system, so please plan on arriving EARLY so that we can get you into the new system - but once you're in, you're in! Future race registration will be a piece of cake! Please don't plan on getting to the parking lot at 6:45 to register...

The race will start back down at the driving range, but you'll all get there via bike.

The Arctic Valley hill climb is about 7 miles, all up hill, to the Alpenglow Chalet parking lot. It's great for getting your hill work in! Bring a warm layer to wear on the way down, because it tends to be pretty chilly up there this time of year - you can stick it in my car for the ride up. We always provide drinks and snacks at the finish line! YAHOO!

CYCLOCROSS BIKES ARE ALLOWED!

It's $15 for adults, under 18 race free.

YOU MUST BE A MEMBER OF THE ARCTIC BIKE CLUB TO RACE!
To become a member, go here.

Any questions, call 440-9928 or email megpiersma@gmail.com.

Arctic Valley Hill Climb May 22nd

Please note that our first event/race of the year isn't until MAY 22. Not tomorrow! So if you show up at the base of the Arctic Valley climb, you'll be climbing up on your own!

24 Hour Race needs your help!

2012
24 Hour Race
Kincaid Park
June 30-July 1

We are looking for a new name for the race! Instead of naming it after wherever the race is located that particular year (24 Hours of Hillside, 24 Hours of Kincaid, 24 Hours of Matanuska.... etc...) we'd like to settle on ONE name that will follow it wherever it may go.

If you've got an awesome, witty, clever or just plain funny name for our race, please leave a comment under this posting. If we pick your race name, you'll race in the 2012 24 Hour race (any category) for free! WOOHOO!!!
